Resumen:
A hydrological and hydrogeological survey has been developed in order to contribute to a better formulation of the conceptual model of the catchment of the Quequen Grande River, province of Buenos Aires. Input and output water budgets have been quantified by means of hydrological balances. Main uncertainties are related to differences between surface and groundwater flow trends and to the water discharge from a confined aquifer duo to groundwater upward. Hydrograph separation was done using HYSEP code, resulting in a baseflow amount between 60 and 90 percent of total flow. The total water input due to precipitation minus evapotranspiration is 977 hm3, while the outflow by at the Quequén Grande River outlet is 466 hm3. Water table contour maps have been draw for a rainy year (2003) and a dry year (2005) and the two volumes have been subtracted in order to obtain the amount of water lost as result if this storage difference. Changes in water storage are an important element in the water balance of the catchment. Hydrochemical composition shows a correspondence between water level fluctuations and hydrochemical composition, mainly by a chloride increase. Magnesium-chloride water types can indicate the groundwater upward from a confined aquifer
