To determine the prevalence of HIV antibodies among heterosexuals consulting for a sexually transmitted disease (STD) without suspecting HIV infection Among sexually active heterosexuals consulting for a STD a group of 218 males (median age 22) and 109 females (median age 27) agree to participate in this study. HIV antibodies were screened by EIA and particle agglutination, and confirmed by Western blot. In 13,8% of heterosexuals HIV antibodies were detected, 51% of which were IVDA.
