Resumen:
Objective: To  detrmine the risk factor and the serological, immunological and clinical evolution of the new-borns of HIV-positive women. A group of 6 infants born to HIV-infectad women wereadmitted to a Chilcfren’s hopltal in Buenos Aires City been December 1987 end March 1968. They were studied clinically, immunologically and serologically every 3 month. Anti—HIV antibodies were studied by EIA, gelatine agglutination, 1F and Western blot techniques. Results: 6 of the infants studied were born to IVDA women, and addmited to the hospital 24 hours after births. In 5 of these cases the father was IVDA-HIV positive and in 1 case the father was unknown. The remaining two babies were abandoned at 20 and 30 days old, the mothers were prostitutes and the fathers unknown. The clinical follow-up performed until9-14 month of age showed in 6 babies a ponderal and neurological development corresponding to normal standards. The immunological profile in the 6 infants during the follow-up. The only baby to arrive undernourished died 1 month later of a sepsis and the last one abandoned the follow-up. The initially very strong positive screening and supplementary tests changed to negative or with fading intensity in the following months. Conclusion: Of 8 HIV positive babies interned in a Children´s hospital of Buenos Aires City, 75% were born to HIV-positive IVDA mothers and the remaining 25% to HIV-positive prostitutes- Une of the 8 babies died 1 month after admission to the hospital, another could not be followed further and the remaining 6 showed normal clinical and immunolgical development with drastic decrease in the anti- HIV antibodies.
