Resumen:
Measurements ofstrain exerted on the walls of thick cylinder reactors were performed duringhydriding/dehydriding cycles of an AB5 type alloy. Though the thickness of bothreactors is comparatively thick regarding the works focused on this topic, significant strain and stress were identified. The way in which the powdermoves and exerts forces on the walls while contraction/expansion occurs doesnot respond to a strict linear behavior with the hydrogen content. Both thestrain gradient towards the bottom vessel and the appreciable decrease of thepowder filling level reflect the decrepitation process responsible of thesignificant stress and the cracking of the vessel. Measured mechanical effectscombined with a strategic tuning of wall elastic properties could lead to theuse of the phenomenom in order to get information on the state of charge.
