Resumen:
The antioxidant response of wheat was analyzed in plants exposed to three different heavy metals. Wheat plants 45 days-old were exposed to Al, As and Cd in soil under two stress condition: Al: 60 mg kg-1 soil at pH 7 and 60 mg kg-1 soil at pH 4; Cd: 10 mg kg-1 soil at pH 7 and 33 mg kg-1 soil at pH 7; As: 10 mg kg-1 soil at pH 7 and 50 mg kg-1 soil at pH 7. Ten days after heavy metal exposition, aerial parts were collected and the following measures were made: lipid peroxidation, catalase, ascorbate peroxidase and guaiacol peroxidase and dry weight. The obtained data matrix was analyzed by principal components analysis (PCA) showing the following responses: increasing of ascorbate peroxidase activity due to Al stress; increasing of catalase activity due to As stress and increasing of guaiacol peroxidase activity due to Cd stress. PCA was an effective chemometric tool to elucidate the antioxidant mechanisms as response to different metals exposures.
