In this chapter we first describe the different experimental techniques for determining the effect of pressure on the superconducting transition temperature, their advantages, limits and problems. We continue by enumerating and explaining in an straightforward manner the different approaches and tools necessary for the interpretation of the measured data. Then, we choose a certain number of systems that serve each as a canonical example of the use of the above described approaches. And finally, we attack the still unsolved problem of mercury cuprates in order to evaluate the status of research in these materials, and the possible breakthroughs.
