Resumen:
NEW DATA ON AMEGHINO´S FOSSIL MAN. In this article, an update on the main archaeological and anthropological discoveries on which Florentino Ameghino based his proposal that the humanity originated during the Tertiary in the Argentine Pampas is presented. The most important discoveries of Fossil Man, the coastal industries (broken stone and split stone) proposed by Ameghino and the discussions that these finds had promoted in the late 19th and early 20th century are summarized. New information is provided on the age of the human skeletons and lithic artifacts studied by Ameghino, derived from AMS radiocarbon dates and recent research of systematically studied archaeological sites on the Atlantic Pampean coast. It is concluded that the bone remains and lithic materials, to which he adscribed a remote antiquity and formulated his theory of human evolution, are of a Holocene age, with the exception of the Arroyo de Frías skeleton.
