That is to say, peoplewho cannot earn their living selling their labor-power. The concept is linkedto marginalized ways of living in marginalized places of living (such asghettos). The concept gained relevance at the end of the 1970?s and over thefollowing decade, especially in the United States. Critiques of the academicuse of the notion of Urban Underclass are various. The concept has been used indifferent forms and has been defined in distinct ways. Many scholars agree thatthere is no precise definition of the objects, processes and problems itdescribes. All these make that the concept lacks theoretical strangeness. New studies from below have brought freshperspectives to the understanding of poor people?s lives. Although currentlythe lack of definition to describe what happened to and the experiences of poorpeople continues, these new studies contribute to an understanding that doesnot blame the poor for their condition. They contribute to the explanation of astructural and subjective scale in the understanding of urban poverty.
