The picturesque city of Hangzhou, known as a "paradise in Earth" and acknowledged by Marco Polo at the end of the 13th century as "the most elegant and beautiful city in the world", hosts in 2007 the Midterm Meeting of the AIC. Hangzhou, the capital of Zhejiang province, has a millenary history and is one of the famous historical and cultural cities of China, having served as one of its ancient seven capitals. More than 4,700 years ago, during the Neolithic Age, human beings already lived in this place and gave origin to the Liangzhu culture.
