Resumen:
The interaction of silicon carbide and alumina particles with an advancing solid/liquid interface in aluminum and aluminum alloy has been examined. The results showed that both particles are segregated at cell walls or interdendritic regions. For a planar interface no evidence of particle pushing  is observed. Alumina particles have a strong tendency to clump in the melt and the clumps are also segregated at the cell walls. It is proposed that the particles or clumps of particles which are segregated at cell walls aor interdendritically arrive ther by a mechanism which involves fluid flow and collision of he particles or clumps with the advancing interface.
