Resumen:
In the early 1990s, the transnational perspective appeared as an analytical approach in the field of international migration studies, associating migration with the effects of globalization. This approach revises perspectives linked to classical economics in which migration was viewed as an individualized strategy that sought to maximize mismatches between supply and demand in the labor market.Analyzing migratory processes from a transnational approach implies recognizing the existence of social relations of different types -familial, economic, political, institutional and religious- that cross borders, link the contexts of origin and destination and build social fields that transcend the limits of the nation-state and are maintained over time. The purpose of this entry is to review the scientific production that analyzes diverse migratory systems of the Global North and South and the main theoretical-methodological challenges that this perspective has faced and continues to face in the face of current transformations in population displacements.
