This paper reports one work in progress to delineate the fundamental theory and methodological decisions which are driving the author’s current archaeological research on human relations to landscape in Santa Cruz Central Massif, Argentina. The main objective is to examine the relationship between the cognitive-processual archaeology framework and GIS-based archaeological evidence location analysis through previous examples. Are these methodological tools adequate to access the physical, social and symbolic dimensions of space? Our preliminary results along with the current discussion indicate that they are very useful to archaeological research as long as it is the theory, and not the data that leads the investigation.
