Resumen:
Magmatic volcanic sequences in the Neuquén Province can be divided in three main groups. First a series of interconnected volcaniclastic depocenters in the Andean region gathered in the Cura Mallín basin and contemporaneous within-plate products in the foreland region. Second arc-related volcanics expanded in the eastern Andean slope. And third Pliocene to Quaternary within-plate bimodal products located from the arc region to the foreland area. Description of spatial distribution of these sequences allow proposing a simple model in which slab subducted shallowings affected the northern and southern Neuquén areas respectively, followed by steepenings in the last 5 Ma that produced differential asthenosphere injection in the retroarc zone, creating variable volcanic fields in duration and size.
