How are police news constructed nowadays? What type of treatment is givento the voice of its protagonists? What criteria prevails in the programs whenit comes to ascertaining what is newsworthy? What role do new technologiesplay? These are some of the questions that guide the present study. The aimis to analyze the content and form of the problem of safety as addressed byover-to-air news channels in the city of Buenos Aires. The goal is to determine,on the one hand, how urban crime is currently depicted by the main televisionnews programs and, on the other, to explore the relation between narrativemodalities and the citizenship practices of victimization and prevention ofurban insecurity.
