Resumen:
With the COVID-19 pandemic and social distancing, social relationships were affected. Social skills refer to a construct that has always been related to behaviors and cognitions that result in better quality social interactions. Given this, it is believed that people with a better developed repertoire of social skills could better face a pandemic moment. The objective of this chapter is to make a theoretical presentation of social skills, considering the main aspects inherent to the construct and, by the end, to relate it to the pandemic context. In addition, the main themes of the other chapters that make up this book will also be briefly presented. These themes are: emotional regulation in adolescents; online music learning; a proposal to develop instructional material on social skills in the pandemic; remote social skills training for teachers; sport in the pandemic; and the relationships between social skills and the impact of the pandemic on caregivers of older adults. It is hoped that by reading the chapters, people can see the benefits of having a well-developed repertoire of social skills in health, in different populations and considering diverse contexts – including crisis contexts such as the pandemic.
