Resumen:
The Common Starling (Sturnus vulgaris) is considered one of the most invasive birds in the world. In Argentina it was first registered in 1987, and since then it has expanded to numerous provinces, including Córdoba. On November 6, 2020, I observed two Starling nests inside cavities: one inside a natural cavity belonging to a Woodpecker (Colaptes sp.), and the other one inside an artificial cavity located in a power transformer station. Both contained at least two chicks inside. Among the food items delivered to the chicks, I identified Coleoptera larvae and Orthoptera adults. These constitute the first records of Starlings nesting in the southeastern region of Córdoba, and show the expansion of this species in agricultural-livestock areas, with potential damage to biodiversity, the economy and health.
