Resumen:
This report summarizes the 1st Latin American Congress of Women in Bioinformatics and Data Science, which was a virtual meeting aimed at making visible the research carried out by women in the fields of Bioinformatics and Data Science. Science and technology are masculinized environments in which gender disparities remain as part of their structure. Even in this event generated by women to make the work of women researchers visible, which could be considered a small portion of the whole scientific system, we were able to observe the glass ceiling effects analyzing the data coming from the presented works. The significant response of the community, evidenced by a large number of attendees and speakers, and our analysis, revealed not only the need for these types of spaces but also the number of women working in the field who are still waiting to be properly recognized.
