Resumen:
Microbial communities drive most ecosystem services and underpin the production of many goods human populations rely on. Indeed, microbiomes mediate nutrient cycling and are core to numerous industrial, agriculture and bioremediation processes. In face of challenges related to climate change and anthropologic activities, a deep understanding of in situ microbial community functioning is required. This information can then be used to design suitable mitigation strategies as well as to develop and optimize new and existing biotechnologies. In this context, omics methodologies represent ideal experimental strategies for the deep characterization of microbial ecosystems.
