Resumen:
The taxonomy of Armillaria in southernSouth America has received little attention since thework of Singer and others. In this study we examinethe morphological traits and cultural features for taxarepresenting the lineages revealed based on molecularphylogeny, and we link them to previouslydescribed taxa based on morphology. Lineages I–IVwere identified as Armillaria novae-zelandiae, A.montagnei, A. umbrinobrunnea comb. nov. and A.sparrei respectively. They could be differentiatedmorphologically based on dimension, features ofthe epicutis, annulus, stipe, hymenophoral tramaand flavor and characteristics in culture. Furthermorethere was no evidence of host preference for thespecies recognized. This is the first study integratingthe phylogeny and morphology of Armillaria speciesfrom Patagonia, and it provides a foundation forfuture research on these fungi in South America.
