Resumen:
Potato rough dwarf virus (PRDV) was originally describedin Argentina [2] while potato virus P (PVP) was firstreported from Brazil [4]. These viruses were essentiallyindistinguishable in test plant reactions when inoculatedonto 21 different solanaceous species [7]. Of the 10 solanaceousspecies susceptible to both PRDV and PVP, themajority did not display symptoms. Only Nicotiana megalosiphonand N. occidentalis showed systemic symptomsconsisting of leaf deformations, leaf rugosity and/or interveinalchlorosis. Six of the 7 potato varieties tested weresusceptible to both PRDV and PVP, but visible symptomsconsisting of plant stunting and the aforementioned leafsymptoms were only evident in second-generation plants ofthe potato cvs. Primicia and Sierra Volca´n infected byPRDV [7].
