Resumen:
Obesity is one of the most prevalent health problems in the world and is the resultant of hyperplasia and hypertrophy of adipose tissue. It is well known that glucocorticoids, as well as mineraloccorticoids are part of the list of hormones that control different aspects of the physiology of this tissue. All their actions are mediated through the binding to the glucocorticoid and the mineralocorticoid receptors (GR and MR, respectively), which are transcription factors present in the cytoplasm that translocate to the nucleus upon hormone binding to control the expression of their target genes. In addition, there are non-genomic actions of these nuclear receptors that need also to be considered. Albeit many aspects of the molecular mechanism of the corticoisteroids receptors are not fully elucidated, and sometimes even controversial, the aim is to summarize our actual understanding.
