Química Biológica, FCEyN-UBA, 4 IFIByNE-CONICET. e-mail: carinaguar@fvet.uba.ar   The arylhydrocarbon receptor (AhR) is known to mediate toxic response to dioxin like TCDD and polycyclic aromatic compounds d has been extensively characterized from a toxicological viewpoint. However, it has recently been reported that the AhR may have a central role in ovarian physiology. The expression of AhR has been described in the ovary of rat, mouse, rabbit, cow and human. Recen findings indicate that the AhR may have a central role in regulating follicular growth during pre- and postnatal life. In bovine, the AhR may be involved in the oocytes maturation promoting the resumption of meiosis. On the other hand, it is known that the follicular atresia begins with the programmed cell death of granulosa cells. The purpose of the current study was to explore the rol of the AhR in the apoptosis of porcine granulosa cells (PGC). Granulosa cells obtained by aspiration of 3 to 6 mm porcine follicles were culture and incubated with the AhR agonist b-naphthoflavone (bNF) and the antagonist a-naphthoflavone (aNF). The apoptosis was examined by annexin V-FITC staining and activity of caspase 3. The results showed that aNF 10 mM induces PGC apoptosis  while bNF 10-20 mM showed no significative changes respect to the control. The aNF induction was significative reverted by bNF when PGC were coincubated with the agonist and antagonist simultaneously. The results indicates that AhR may be involved in the apoptosis regulation of porcine granulosa cells.
