Caracterizacion de las pastas ceramicas de las unidades arqueologicas Itararé-Taquara e Guaraní de los sitios de la Volta de Uvá, Alto río Uruguay

In this study, we analyze the composition of ceramic pastes of the Guarani and Itararé-Taquara potteries, based on 26 standard thin sections made out of recovered fragments from archaeological sites located at Volta do Uvá, Upper Uruguay River, Santa Catarina. From the main results obtained, we were allowed to draw significant distinctions between the pastes of both archaeological units, conforming to the different use of the quantity and type of the inclusions; the relative abundance of pore spaces and inclusions in the clay matrix; and the degree of kneading. In comparative terms, both groups have internal similarities and significant differences from each other, evincing the existence of different pottery traditions mediated by different learning lineages.
