Resumen:
A simple model has been used to test the applicability of the local density approximation (LDA) to calculate different moments of the energy loss distribution. A first-order calculation of the excitation and ionisation of the hydrogen atom is used as a reference to extract the range of validity of the LDA. The impact parameter dependence of the energy loss and extensions to other systems are discussed as well.
