This paper has the purpose of beginning to evaluate which could be some of the material correlates of the ideational sphere in Pampean archaeology. For that reason, anthropological theories of religion and archaeological data used to treat this subject were considered. With this general objective, the evidence recovered at a particular archeological site -Nutria Mansa 1- is discussed within the framework of the regional archaeological record. In addition, on an attempt to reduce the diverse possibilities of interpretations of the past, ethnographic sources from Pampa and Patagonia regions are explored. The evidences and arguments discussed in this article show that objects with variable symbolic connotations are present in Pampean hunter-gatherers daily life. This allows concluding that, at the same time these societies exploited the environment for subsistence and technological production, different ideological factors were interacting and that they had detectable material consequences in the archaeological record.
