Resumen:
Enhanced memory for emotionally arousing eventsis a highly adaptive phenomenon that helps usremember both dangerous and favorable situations.1However, under certain conditions, intrusive andpersistent traumatic memories can lead to anxietydisorders, like posttraumatic stress disorder. Currenttherapies for anxiety disorders involve pharmacologicalor behavioral manipulations of long-lastingfear memories in which patients explicitly recallthe painful traumatic experience.2,3 Despite recentadvances, a major question of how to effectivelyattenuate persistent fear memories in a safe and lessdistressful manner remains unresolved.
