Resumen:
The Casa Colorada Formation is represented by a thick siliciclastic sequence extensively cropping out in the mid-sector of the Quebrada de Humahuaca, Jujuy province. Trilobites, conodonts, brachiopods, echinoderms, trace fossils and palinomorphs are recorded in the strata and allowed, with some minor differences, a genaral chronostratigraphic understanding of the unit.  The Casa Colorada Formation was formally defined in the 60´s on the basis of an informal nomination of the 50´s. During the last years, an increasing amount of publications in the area provoqued creation, use and missuse of stratigraphic nominations, generationg some inconsitencies in the literature. This contribution proposes an ordering frame for the early mentioned situation, and presents a new palynological association for the Casa Colorada Formation cropping out at Quebrada de Moya in Chucalezna. Early Ordovician palynomorphs include Buedingiisphaeridium tremadocum, Cymatiogalea cristata, C. membranispina, Saharidia downie, Polygonium symbolum, Vulcanisphaera britanica among the most important forms, and represents the earliest Ordovician association in the South American Central Andean Basin.
