Resumen:
Summary.Viscosuppplementation with intra-articular hyaluronic acid (hyaluronan, HA) is arelatively new available option for patients with symptomatic knee osteoarthritis toimprove pain and articular function. An open multicenter study was performed in365 patients with definite and symptomatic knee-osteoarthritis from sevenlatinamerican countries. Five doses of HA were administered once a week. Thestudied parameters were pain (6 items), stiffness (2 items) and functional capacity(17 items). The parameters were evaluated one week after the correspondinginjection. Statistical differences were found when comparing the basaldeterminations of the three parameters with the results of the first and fourthadministration (p<0.05). Intra-articular HA administration was well tolerated.Treatment-related non serious adverse events were registered in 2.5% of theadministrations. Considering the results obtained, it was confirmed that HA is auseful and well-tolerated symptomatic treatment for knee-osteoarthritis with a rapidonset of action.
