Resumen:
Natural history and social behavior of the Lark-like Brushrunner (Coryphisteraalaudina). – The Lark-like Brushrunner is perhaps the most social species in the Furnariidae. Despite thetheoretical and evolutionary interest of its behavior, to date there is no detailed study of its basic characteristics. We distinguish two types of individuals based on plumage features (Dark and light individuals) andthree types based on behavioral patterns (Vigía or putative male, Aleteadora or putative female, and helpers).Groups ranged in size from 2 to 14 individuals. Most group members contribute to nest-building andnestling provisioning. Nests are built very rapidly (1–4 days). Apparently, only a single pair lays eggs in anest. Lark-like Brushrunners roost communally in the nest while breeding, and also in former nests. Nestdefense is also communal. Clutch size mode is four eggs, coinciding with patterns of group-size changes.Groups of Lark-like Brushrunners are probably families.
