Resumen:
A process for the attainment of 3-carboxyindeno[1,2-b]pyran-2(5H)-ones and their conversion into 2-methoxycarbonyl fluorenes, based on the inverse-electron-demand Diels-Alder reaction of substituted 3-methoxycarbonyl-2-pyrones, was described. The reaction of 2,3-dihydro-1H-inden-1-ones I (R1, R2 = H, OMe) with di-Me (methoxymethylene)malonate gave indeno[1,2-b]pyran-3-carboxylates II (same R1, R2). The reaction of II with 1-vinyl-2-pyrrolidinone gave 9H-fluorene-2-carboxylic acid Me esters III (same R1, R2).
