Resumen:
In the present work, experimental research was carried out to determine the evolution of dendritic microstructure during the directional solidification of 316-L steel, in which columnar to equiaxed transitions (CET) were also present. Experimental values of secondary (l2) and tertiary (l3) dendritic spacing are presented. Mathematical relationships obtained from current models are used to predict theoretical spacing values, which are compared to the experimental values. The relationships either takes into account the carbon content present in the steel or not. Since there is scarce information about tertiary dendritic spacing and its theoretical determination in the literature, it is presented here some empirical relationships to determine tertiary dendritic spacing as a function of the solidification parameters.
