Resumen:
The need of new mechanical prosthetic valves with better hemodinamics performance requires studies on a new design of prosthetic valve. A novel design, which is worth to study, is a trileaflet valve. The associated flow on such design was modeled using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), with Finite Element, on a steady state system. The results were compared with those corresponding to a standard bileaflet prosthetic valve. The trileaflet design showed an 86% of central flow, close to values found in native heart valves. It was also observed the effect of the curvature of the valves and the pivots on the flow, which may help in achieving a better design.
