Resumen:
Metallographic observations of polycrystals of zinc were compared using ULOI and polarized light microscopy. Zinc is an optically anisotropic material, which means that all its crystalline grains respond to polarized light. Some grains present furrows on its surface, which also produce polarization effects. ULOI detects only those crystalline grains which possess a corrugated surface, besides determining the angular direction of the furrow with a precision of ± 2°.
