Resumen:
Wetlands havetraditionallybeenassociatedwithharbouringmosquitoes,buttheeffectofthelanduseon theircommunitieshasnotbeenthoroughlystudied.Wecharacterizedtheground-waterhabitatavail-ability andmosquitospeciesrichnessandcompositionduringayear-roundsurveyinthepredominantland uses(domesticareas,Salicaceaeplantations,secondaryforestsand Scirpus giganteus marshes) ofthe ParanáLowerDelta,Argentina.Eachlandusepresentedacharacteristicallydifferentnumber,com-position, anddiversityofground-waterhabitats,andharbouredmosquitoesthroughouttheyear.Nearlyhalf ofthe824habitatsexamined,consistingof10types,werepositiveforimmatures.Weidentified23species from7genera,with Culex and Ochlerotatus species accountingfor81.7%ofallsamples.Speciesrichness wassignificantlylowerinmarshesthanintheotherlanduses.Somespeciessuchas Culex dolosuss.l. and Ochlerotatus crinifer exhibited nohabitat-typerestrictions,while Uranotaenia nataliae and Mansoniaindubitans presented specifichabitatrequirements.Ourresultsstronglysuggestthatlandusewithintemperate wetlandsdrivesspeciesrichnessandcompositionofground-watermosquitocommunitiesthrough larvalhabitatavailability.
