Resumen:
A num erical m odel using an axi symmetr ic approx imation is develope d to stud y particle pushi ng du ring solidifi cation. The model is applie d to determ ine the effect of different paramet ers on the predi cte d critica l ve locity for engu lfment of the part icle by the solidify ing inter face. The main paramet ers conside red are pa rticle radi us, inter face veloc ity and inter face sha pe as obta ined for different therm al conduct ivities between mat rix and particle . The relative thermal conductiv ity is very impo rtant in the pushi ng/ca pture process in increa sing or decreasi ng th e critica l velocity fo r pushi ng one order of magnit ude, with re spect to the critica l velocit y for a flat interfa ce, dep ending on whethe r the interfa ce is concave or convex. Mor eover, the predicte d critica l veloc ities cove r the s pan of measur ed va lues in agreem ent with the tenden cy given by th e thermal cond uctiviti es and particle radius.
