Resumen:
Cancer is a disease that implies several different genotypic andphenotypic traits in its whole process of development: thetumorigenesis. Oncologists used to be very frustrated when somecancers relapse, mainly those named difficult-to-treat. This relapseis due in general to an innate tumor treatment resistance capacitythat is called “tumor refractoriness”. However, sometimes we findthat a small fraction of previously resistant patients respondsunexpectedly well, presenting complete responses, better partialresponses, or what it is known in cancer as the most importantend-point: prolonged overall survival. Initially, this kind ofpatients were a matter of study at the USA National Cancer Instituteof Health (NIH), but later many other research teams began to keep aneye on them. The take-home-message of this breviary is that seekingthese exceptionally-responsive patients as well as analyzing theirmolecular profiles could help to find new mechanisms and/orbiomarkers to be targeted not only in this kind of patients but alsoin those with a more classic treatment response.p { line-height: 115%; margin-bottom: 0.1in; background: transparent }
