Resumen:
Herbal medicine used by people in a suburban neighborhood from Tandil city (Bs. As.) was studied. The species used by the population and their relative importance, the ailments treated, the places were herbal remedies were obtained and their relationship with Public Medicine were analyzed. Semi structured interviews in 40 domestic units and herbal medicine outlets interview were conducted. 83% of the interviewed used medicinal plants within a total of 46 species in 22 therapeutic applications for 11 body systems diseases. Species are collected in orchards and gardens (47,5%); bought /obtained in shops (25%), gathered from hills (15%) and vacant lots (12,5%). Orchards and vacant lots provide exclusive species and complement each other as places for the obtention of species with greater relative importance; the other species come mainly from shops. It was found that the folk medicine and the formal one are complementary.
