Hetty L. R. Bertoldi de Pomar, a pionner of phytolithic studies in ArgentinaBorn on the 1924 May 4, in Sunchales (Santa Fe), Hetty Bertoldi de Pomar completed her secondary studies in Santa Fe city graduating as a Bachelor in 1942. She performed her university studies in Geology (1947) and her doctorate degree in Natural Sciences -specialty Mineralogy and Geology- (1952) at the Universidad Nacional de Córdoba. She held different professional positions in the Ministerio de Agricultura y Ganadería de Santa Fe (1947-67) and professor at the Universidad Nacional del Litoral (1954-1969). In 1968, she joined CONICET at the Instituto Nacional de Limnología (INALI) from Santo Tomé city, until her retirement in 1984. Initiated in the 1950’s influenced by Dr. Frenguelli, she turned to the study of silicophytoliths which passed from being a component of her pedological and sedimentological researches, to becoming her main subject of study. During her career, she made important contributions in the field that place her amongone of the promoters of the discipline at a national and global level. Likewise, she was part of numerous scientific associations and committees, highlighting her work as head of the Asociación de Ciencias Naturales del Litoral. Still retired, she continued to teach courses and lectures on phytolithic studies, becoming a reference person for a growing community of researchers who from various disciplines address the subject and who, after her death, on 2020, June 17, are currentlycontinuing her work, preserving and consolidating a great legacy
