Resumen:
In this report, we present a personal view on the present scientificchallenges of electrochemistry in terms of fundamentalunderstanding of electrochemical reactions and processes. Inparticular, we will illustrate a few examples with the oxygenelectrode kinetics. To this end, we start by revising the fundamental contributionsof electrochemistry as a branch of physical chemistry: AlessandroVolta developed the ?Electrical Pile? in 1800 with the availabilityof electricity from chemical conversion.Michael Faraday formulatedthe law of electrolysis in 1834 relating the amount of matterto the electrical charge circulated.
