The CONICET strengthens bonds with society

CONICET’s bonds with society advance: the technology transference activities performed in 2014 reflect an increase of 45% over the previous year.

Last year, the CONICET conducted transfer activities with 1.150 contracting parties where there are 66% of SME (small and medium-sized enterprises), 15% of different state entities, 11% of civil social organizations and 8% of large companies. This data reflects the Council’s support to SME in particular, and to all sectors of society in general because through the structure of science and technology of the State, they will find the knowledge necessary to improve their competitiveness and the decision-making process.

Currently, the Council has 225 centres and institutions distributed throughout the country and it offers more than 2.000 high-level technological services, undertakes 70 technological development projects and promotes 34 Technology-Base Companies with the participation of researchers and technology of the CONICET.

Furthermore, 87 new patents’ requests in which 122 inventors participated were made. According to this, the CONICET has a portfolio of more than 750 patents at local and international level, with 63 licence agreements for their technologies.

After the creation of Y-TEC (CONICET-YPF) in 2013 and with its building and laboratories being constructed in Ensenada, LATENADES is the new CONICET company and an international SME (Geomap) with its headquarters in the province of Salta, where it will provide services for companies of the oil and gas sectors.

It is also important to mention the call for oriented projects between the CONICET and different entities such as the province of San Juan, SEDRONAR, the Defensoría del Público de Servicios de Comunicación Audiovisual, YPF Fundation, and the different national universities. These projects aim to generate knowledge and human resources on important issues for the country.

More than 1.600 researchers and technicians of the Council participated in these activities which reflect the cultural change that happens in the field of science and technology of our country where good science is fostered (in 2014 researchers of the CONICET published more than 6.300 papers in prestigious international magazines, 12% more than in 2013) as well as knowledge transfer.
