‘Café Científico Posadas’ is finalist in an international contest in Berlin

The dissemination initiative created by CONICET scientists in Misiones was selected to participate in the Falling Walls 2019.

Café Científico Posadas[Scientific Coffee Posadas], a dissemination initiative created by CONICET researchers in the province of Misiones, is finalist in an international forum that rewards innovative proposals in communication and will participate in the conference Falling Walls, which will take in Berlin in November. The project was selected among 80 other initiatives from 40 countries.

Since 2013, the Applied Genetics Research Team (GIGA) of the Instituto de Biología Subtropical(IBS, CONICET – UNAM) [Institute of Subtropical Biology] has organized Scientific Coffee meetings once a month. These popular events have become an informal and friendly environment for scientific dissemination in which the scientific community and the society can discuss without barriers.

In its sixth seasons, the Scientific Coffee Posadas has focused on different areas of knowledge, from biology to genetics and ecology up to education sciences, anthropology and semiotics.

This project was one of the 20 finalists selected to participate in the Falling Walls Engage, an international forum for innovative communication, education and scientific participation. The program aims at highlighting the responsibility of the researchers for the common good and dissemination of scientific literacy, with a special focus on hard-to-reach groups. The winners will receive funding to boost their initiatives.

The conference will take place on November 8th and 9th, 2019 in Berlin. Julian Ferreras, CONICET associate researcher at the IBS and creator of ‘Scientific Coffee Posadas’ will be in charge of presenting the initiative in the forum.

“This is great opportunity show our project at an international level and generate new bonds to increase this initiative that we conduct with a great team of researchers, fellows, volunteers and the support of VOCar program of CONICET, UNaM and the ‘Centro del Conocimiento’,” Ferreras states.
