Resumen:
OtachyriinaeButzin, one of the three subtribes within the Paspaleae tribe of grasses, includesseven genera and approximately 35 species. Interestingly, this subtribe comprisesspecies with C3, C3-C4 intermediate, and C4photosynthesis. Thecircumscription of Otachyriinae has changed through time, and still variesamong treatments in current use. The monophyly of this subtribe has beenrecovered in previous studies based on plastid markers. A phylogenetic studytaking into account polyploidy and a low-copy nuclear gene (LCNG) is stilllacking in Paspaleae. Given the high rates of polyploidy in Paspaleae, are-analysis of its phylogeny with a LCNG is paramount to uncover reticulatedevolution within the group. The purpose of the present study was to reconstructthe evolutionary history of Otachyriinae, based on both chloroplast and LCNG DNAwith a focus on polyploidizations. We identify nine possibleallopolyploidizations events. Furthermore, the molecular sampling in this studyimproves our understanding of reticulation events within all major clades, andclarifies the taxonomic affiliation of Panicumspecies with historically ambiguous placements.
