Resumen:
Phylogenetic analyses of 131 terminals ofPaspalum and related genera, based on both plastid andnuclear markers, were performed under maximum parsimonyand Bayesian methods. The total evidence analysesgenerated a hypothesis showing that Paspalum would bemonophyletic if Spheneria, Thrasyopsis and Reimarochloaare included within the genus. Paspalum inaequivalve andP. microstachyum, two species of the Inaequivalvia groupwere related to genus Anthaenantiopsis, excluded fromPaspalum, or nested within it by plastid and nuclearmarkers, respectively. Subgenera Anachyris and Harpostachyswere partially recovered as monophyletic assemblages, while subg. Ceresia and Paspalum resolved aspolyphyletic. Within subgenus Paspalum, some informalgroups were recovered as monophyletic, while others wereresolved as paraphyletic or polyphyletic. Phylogeneticrelationships among species of Paspalum were partiallyrecovered possibly due to reticulation events among species, autopolyploidization and apomixis; all these processesbeing common in Paspalum, thus obscuring the infragenericclassification.
