Resumen:
Chitosan is a polysaccharide derived from the deacetylation of chitin (the second most abundant polymer after cellulose). Chitosan is soluble in acid medium and insoluble in basic medium and can be easily handled, formatted and chemically modified to be used in a variety of applications in food, pharmaceutical and material fields. Here we report the production of highly porous chitosan mini-spheres and membranes, and their chemical modification to perform low-cost protein purification processes.
