Resumen:
Microfiltration hollow-fibre membranes were grafted with glycidyl methacrylate (membranes I) or a mixture of glycidyl methacrylate and dimethyl acrylamide 1:2.1, v/v (membranes II) and Red HE-3B was covalently attached to them after reaction of the grafted epoxy groups with ammonia. Membranes permeability was 37.0 and 7.1 ml/cm2. min.bar for membranes I and II respectively.             A maximum capacity of 21.5 and 110.2 mg/ml and dissociation constants of 0.08 and 0.75 mg/ml were calculated from the adsorption isotherms for membranes I and II respectively. Different eluents were assayed, and 2 M NaCl + 25 % ethylene glycol was chosen, eluting 90 % of lactoferrin adsorbed on membranes II and only 15.8 % of lactoferrin adsorbed on membranes I. Membranes II-Red HE-3B were selected for lactoferrin purification from colostrum due to their higher capacity and elution percentage .             Performance of membranes II-Red HE-3B was compared with that of Sepharose 4B-Red HE-3B, resulting in a 97 % higher recovery of electrophoretically pure lactoferrin.
