Resumen:
Female gonadal development of Decapoda Crustacea in induced by the reduction of the gonad-inhibiting hormone. Moerover, the mobilization of reserves from the midgut gland is regulated by eyestalk factors. An accurate quantity and quality from these reserves is required for a good gonadal development, higher hatching rate and survival of the new generation. The environmental-nutrition conditions and competitive effects could be correlated with the beggining of the reproductive season. The eclosion of P. argentinus larvae before that of M. borellii may be a coexistence factor between these two species. The late appearance of the aggressive m. borellii larvae might favour the growth and development of P. argentinus larvae. This fact might happen as a result of the reduction in the high predation risk or injury and also in the interspecific competence during the first larval stages. The earlier gonadal maturation of the largest M. borellii females could be an evidence of hierarchical structures in this species.
