Resumen:
This article does not intend to be a thorough review about diversity in common bean but to highlight the impact biotechnology had and might have in future breeding and genetic resources programs by means of tools such as molecular markers. Biotechnology can be defined as the use and manipulation of living organisms and/or their metabolic processes, to generate useful products. Since 1980, with the advent of molecular biology, biotechnology has had a tremendous impact on today’s life.
