Resumen:
The aim of this study was to determine the current and lifetime rates of DSM IV psychiatric disorders in patients with psychogenic non epileptic seizures (PNES), documented by video-EEG, and determine similarities and differences between the patients with epilepsy comorbidity and without epilepsy comorbidity (pure PNES group). Seventeen patients were study by a psychiatrist to determine the personal history,  the historical course of non epileptic seizures,  and the current presence of DSM IV diagnoses in Axis I and II. It has been analyzed: coexisting epilepsy, delay to diagnoses and  use of AEDS. Results: Most of the subjects were female, 70%, and the mean age was 33 years. Common current psychiatric diagnoses included: somatoform disorders, 46%, anxiety disorders, 22%, and dissociative disorders, 11%. Forty seven patients have had criteria for Axis II comorbidity and all of them belong to the pure NES group. Both group have had high rates of psychiatry disorders, but association of trauma experiences, and personality disorders was mor significant in the group with pure NES.
