Resumen:
The incorporation of Sn and its effect on the magnetic response of the LaMnOy perovskite have been studied by XRD, SEM, EDS and d.c. magnetization in samples with nominal composition La1-xSnxMnOy (x = 0.00, 0.10, 0.30 and 0.50). The solubility of Sn in the ABO3 structure strongly depends on the synthesis temperature (Ts). For Ts > 850°C a multiphase material composed of SnO2, La2Sn2O7, Mn3O4 and LaMnOy is obtained with a Sn concentration of only 1 at.% in the ABO3 structure. The formation of a second pyrochlore phase including both Sn and Mn was not observed in any of the samples, in disagreement with other works. The paramagnetic-ferromagnetic transitions at T approx. 260 K for x = 0.30 and T approx. 210 K for x = 0.50 samples, correspond to the ABO3 phase, while the magnetic transition around 45 K for the x = 0.50 sample may be due to Mn3O4.
