This paper contrasts the uses given by Luhmannian´ General Social Systems Theory (GSST) and by Latourian´ Actor-Network Theory (ANT) to the controversy against humanism, and evaluates the impact of these uses in the theoretical innovations introduced by GSST and by ANT in the concept of the social. We compare theoretical the connection between the concepts of communication and anti-humanism performed by Luhmann with the concepts of collective and post-humanism, by Latour. The comparative perspective favors the development of a systematic theoretical argument on the main hypothesis of this work, namely: the controversy against humanism constitutes a positive vector for the production of theoretical developments and for the distinction among both proposals.
